Asalaam-o-Alaikum / Kia Ora
Respected Community Members,

We are very pleased to inform you that Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) resumed its business from Saturday 3 October 2020 with its Annual General Meeting (AGM).

As you might be aware that FIANZ affairs were halted due to conflicts among the FIANZ council members. A group comprising of prominent Pakistani elders and community members facilitated meditation between the FIANZ councils over the past few months. Mediation was led by Dr Hanif Quazi, who is Pakistan community elder from Palmerston North. Mr Naveed Hamid, President of Pakistan Association of New Zealand (PANZ) was also part of the mediation group. Other members of the mediation group consisted of Mr Qaiser Rashid, Strategy & Finance Coordinator of PANZ, Dr Ibrar Khalid, Dr Muhammad Shaib, and Mr Rehan Badar.

FIANZ council members agreed to the FIANZ President election which took place in Wellington on 20 September 2020. Mr Ibrar Sheikh was elected as new FIANZ President. AGM took place in Auckland on 3 October 2020. FIANZ council members and a number of community members attended the AGM. Mr Ibrar Sheikh, elected president, announced his executive council during the AGM.

Mr Ibrar Sheikh and his executive committee shall complete FIANZ reforms including comprehensive constitutional review, during the first year by virtue of the mediation settlement agreement between the FIANZ council members.

PANZ takes this opportunity to formally congratulate Mr Ibrar Sheikh as newly elected FIANZ President.

Please join us in prayers May Allah SWA grant Its blessings upon Muslim Ummah, especially upon the Muslims of New Zealand (Amin).
